Appointment of Vicar

On 7 December 2025 the Diocese of Southwark issued this announcement:

“We are delighted to announce that The Bishop of Southwark, in consultation with the parish representatives, has appointed the Revd Johnny Sertin to be the Vicar of St. Andrew’s Earlsfield. This will be on a ‘house for duty’ basis.

Johnny has been part of the Ministry Team at St. Andrew’s since 2014. He is delighted to be taking on this new role, and subject to the satisfactory completion of the necessary procedures, he will take up this post at the end of May 2026.

Johnny is an ordained self-supporting pioneer priest. He is a coach, mentor and speaker with 30 years of experience in community organising, personal development and social entrepreneurship, and holds a Master’s degree in community-based regeneration.

He is the founder of Becoming Development, which seeks to enable compassionate, creative, and resourceful leadership for a complex world; he also serves as the movement lead for CMS Britain, working with a network of mission enablers and communities across the UK.

Johnny is a native of London and lives with his wife Lisa and three sons, Bruno, Sonny and Jedidiah. When he is not working, you will usually find him up a mountain, on open water or sitting around a fire with friends. He obsesses over the game of rugby and is a lifelong Arsenal fan.”

The St Andrew’s PCC is delighted that this appointment can be announced. We wanted to add a couple of further details. Firstly, that Johnny will be part-time in the role of Vicar (as he is in his current role). An Associate Vicar (also part time) will be appointed and the recruitment process for that position will commence in earnest very early in the New Year. The process will be led by the Diocese, but in consultation with the PCC. Secondly, Johnny’s licencing as Vicar will take place at a special evening service (time to be confirmed) on Sunday 24 May – so please put this date in your diaries.
